WEEK FIVE

Rise and shine, little monsters. A new week is waiting just for you. The events of yesterday may have been hard to stomach, but time heals all wounds, after all. The damages the house has incurred over the last week have been reverted and the staff is hard at work fulfilling their roles in this mansion. A piping hot breakfast is served in the dining room promptly at 7am, every square inch of floor and furniture has been cleaned spotless, and Pumpkin is...probably around tending to the animals outside. As you exit your rooms on this lovely morning, guests will find that the barrier leading upstairs has diminished, and a new floor has been opened to explore.

For anyone who ventures into the ballroom, a new change may become apparent. Should you choose to look at the plaques long enough, two images will flicker and change sporadically. While Phoenix's portrait remains the same, on occasion it will change to an unrecognizable figure, flames surrounding the charred flesh. Likewise, Four's portrait looks just like herself, though if you blink you may miss the sharp knives protruding through her chest, rivers of blood dripping down her front. There is no rhyme and reason for the change...though perhaps it serves as a reminder to those who remain.

Additionally, the house rules have been moved from the ballroom and back into the hallway, mounted in the entryway as they were.

You know what to expect by now. Once a week, one of your own transforms into someone unrecognizable. But it's hard to empathize with someone without experiencing the hardship for yourself, isn't it? Worry not. Starting today, from the moment you wake, you will find that you yourself have changed into something unrecognizable. Claws, fangs, fur, scales, extra limbs, extra mouths...the changes are numerous as your monster form takes a hold of you. Oh but it's alright! It's just the physical appearance, after all. You're still yourself inside...but it may be hard to believe that as the week goes on.

Some of you may be able to brush these strange changes aside. Others of you may find yourself struggling to understand who you really are. And others of you will find even more problems on hand. Is it your imagination, or did the mansion grow several degrees colder? You just can't quite to seem to warm up. While you may normally be comfortable sharing blankets with your fellow guests, you now find yourself feeling a bit greedy and unwilling to share...well, anything, really. The insatiable greed requires you to take and take and take, no matter if you require the necessities you're taking. And yet even as you take, and especially as you consume, you find that you're never quite satisfied, belly never quite full regardless of how much you eat. That's troubling, isn't it?

You may experience only some of these events. Then again, maybe you're unlucky and you're experiencing all of these events at different points in time. Time is of the essence, however, and come Monday at noon a rustling crackle of static can be heard from overhead. Try as you might, you won't be able to find the speakers but a message will play loud and clear for all.

What, every week you go without killing somebody, I reward you? That sounds backwards.

It doesn't have to be a big reward. Hell, even a smile would count at this point, I don't think I've ever seen you smile.

I can give you a reward too for not murdering anyone. That way it's even.

I don't smile and I don't need a reward for not murdering anybody. That makes it feel like I would, normally...

[ He has not smiled in so long. I can't remember the last time... It was probably at Missile. He laughed at Jin Ling at one point? but I can't remember how long ago that was. ]

[aaaaaand he missed the point entirely. Again.]

I don't know what I expected.

The answer you should have given, by the way, was "Sure, Chuuya. If my beautiful face lights up your life that much, then I'll smile just for you."

[ He is going to run away? Yeah. He is just going to turn around and not be here, wishing he could turn fully invisible and disappear instead of being red in the face. ]

[Well. That certainly is an interesting reaction. Chuuya suddenly isn't so disappointed in how this all has turned out.]

[He's asking as he follows Ayabe, because hell yes he wants an answer to that.]

[Why are they shouting this important conversation across the backyard for everyone to hear. Someone's going to die from the embarrassment of it all, and it's going to be whoever Chuuya takes out his frustrations on.]

Do I have to be clearer than that? What do I have to do for you to finally get it?

[ Everybody suddenly goes deaf and blind, they're not allowed to hear this conversation that's happening out in public. ]

I heard your feelings, so! You don't have to do anything else!

[ Does Chuuya get an answer? He absolutely does not. ]

Then answer them already! Because I'm chasing you until you give a 'yes' or 'no'!

[He will, too.]

[ EVERYBODY IS SUPPOSED TO BE DEAF AND BLIND I SEE YOU GUYS DOWN THERE ]

You don't have to! I already answered you!

[ he is going! to run!! ]

[COME ON AYABE DON'T GET PERFORMANCE ANXIETY]

You didn't even realize what I meant until just now! The answer you gave me then doesn't count! Say it again!

[Then he will keep! Running! After! He's got the stamina to keep up and his dumb bird wings aren't too terrible to run with thankfully.]

[ It's not that much of a chase, seeing as Ayabe can't go ten steps without wheezing and dying, but he will keep trying out of the principle of the matter. ]

It counts! I meant it the first time and you know what I mean, so why do I have to say it again?!

[Yeah honestly those injuries are why he doesn't just tackle Ayabe to the ground. He will reach out to try and snag his hand, though.]

Because when I tried to hold your hand you gave me a hi-5 and that's sending me mixed signals!

[ He stops short at that, enough to let Chuuya grab his hand. ]

You were trying to hold my hand?!

[ WHY WOULD ANYBODY THINK THAT why would he... now he has to reevaluate his entire LIFE trying to figure out anything else he had missed ]

Of course I was trying to hold your hand! When you like someone, you hold their hand! Like I'm doing right now!

[He holds up their hands and shakes it a little to indicate that this sure is some hand-holding going on.]

In case you didn't notice, it feels really nice and I've got goddamn butterflies in my stomach, so take responsibility for that!

[ It shouldn't count as hand holding when it feels like he's been trapped and can't make himself let go or pull away, and butterflies in his stomach? feels like DEATH, butterflies are not a nice fluttery feeling, they are heart palpitations and lightheadedness and a red face.

Maybe if he headbutts Chuuya, Chuuya will stop. Maybe Ayabe will pass out again. Both options seem appealing right now.

Instead, he places his other hand on top of theirs and lowers them so the hand holding isn't right in his face, and mutters something inaudible under his breath. This is cheating. ]

[This is absolutely cheating, but Chuuya has been following the rules for weeks now. He has also decided that following the rules is for losers, and he will be doing what he wants from now on.

That said, he quiets down just a little bit, since it does seem like he's finally getting through to Ayabe.]

You're gonna have to say that a little louder.

[Regardless of the answer, Chuuya needs to hear it. Not knowing for sure is the worst.]
