WEEK THREE: MINGLE
WEEK THREE
OCCUPANCY: 28
Rise and shine, little monsters. A new week is waiting just for you. The events of yesterday may have been hard to stomach, but time heals all wounds, after all. The damages the house has incurred over the last week have been reverted and the staff is hard at work fulfilling their roles in this mansion. A piping hot breakfast is served in the dining room promptly at 7am, every square inch of floor and furniture has been cleaned spotless, and Pumpkin is...probably around tending to the animals outside. As you exit your rooms on this lovely morning, guests will find that the barrier leading upstairs has diminished, and a new floor has been opened to explore.
For anyone who ventures into the ballroom, a new change may become apparent. Should you choose to look at the plaques long enough, two images will flicker and change sporadically. While Mammon's portrait remains the same, on occasion it will change to an image of a flattened and concave individual almost unrecognizable. Likewise, Meltryllis's portrait looks just like herself, though if you blink you may miss it changing into a large leviathan, claws and scales glistening against the water. Finally, Stefano's portrait reveals a picture of the artist, but every now and then his head hangs from his neck by a shred of skin. There is no rhyme and reason for the change...though perhaps it serves as a reminder to those who remain.
Additionally, the house rules have been moved from the ballroom and back into the hallway, mounted in the entryway as they were.
They say that the past builds a strong foundation for the future. But what if your past isn't quite as clear as others? Anyone can lie about who they are; all it takes is a bit of practice to hide your true memories. Starting today, however, it seems as though the skeletons in your closet wish to come out. Memories you've kept hidden during this stay will begin to float to the surface of your mind, forcing their way out and onto other guests in your vicinity. There doesn't appear to be rhyme or reason how it happens whether it's by touch or by simply standing close to someone. Some memories may be stronger around those you're closest with, but it seems as though everything will be brought to the light eventually.
Perhaps your memories are happy ones. Or perhaps you'll view your memories as something to be ashamed of, hiding away from the people you've come to befriend. Maybe it's a good thing you'll find that you can't see your own reflection in the mirror. Entering rooms becomes harder when you have to be invited by someone else, and...the smell and taste of garlic becomes repugnant, driving you away,
You may experience only some of these events. Then again, maybe you're unlucky and you're experiencing all of these events at different points in time. Time is of the essence, however, and come Monday at noon a rustling crackle of static can be heard from overhead. Try as you might, you won't be able to find the speakers but a message will play loud and clear for all.

Okay. We should probably check out every room... But a candlestick is probably in the dining room, living room or a bedroom, right?

[ maybe it's in the sun room for all they know. does this house have a sun room.
anyway that's a resounding vote for 'every room' even if it's a pain. ]

[Ordinarily he would definitely finish that sentence, but.. Is that something scratching he hears? Scurrying, perhaps?]
...I'm not imagining that, right?
no subject
[ of course, when have either of them been lucky. ]
Well! You have a clipboard to hit them with. Maybe you can treat them the way the detective did his raccoon friend.
[ as for her maybe she can find the candlestick and. it was 45, in the orange house, with the candlestick. ]

[The sound of angry squeaking intensifies as they move forwards down this increasingly small hallway.]
...Okay, time to go into this room immediately.
[WHATEVER THE NEAREST ONE IS...

listen i'm pulling from my memory of luigi's mansion rooms, let me live. ]
...Huh. Not quite what I was expecting, but all right.
[ but are there still Rats is the question. 🔪 ]
no subject
Okay. So, I'm immediately thinking I'd rather take my chances with the rats. Although, I don't think terrifying haunted doll was on the list of hazards...
[He's definitely assuming there's going to be one, though.]
no subject
[ maybe they should just go back and deal with rats. ]
no subject
Yeah, nope, rats. Definitely rats.
[OUT THE DOOR THEY GO. And he's immediately power walking towards the first staircase. You can't catch him rats!! That being said, he looks back to see if she's coming--
Which might be why he doesn't see the small wave of them descending down the stairs towards him. Hm.]
no subject
But no, since he can't keep his eyes ahead of him, she's going to look ahead, sigh, grab him by the collar, and pull him aside while grabbing the closest decently sized thing she can find out of a stand nearby
and swing.
... Jury's out on how effective an umbrella is against a wave of rats, but as you do. ]
no subject
You okay—?
no subject
well, first she's going to have to swing at another group of stragglers-
then: ]
They're rats. All things considered, much less concerning than the things from last week.
[ squints. ]
no subject
[He frowns slightly as they move into the second story, though.]
no subject
[ if there's a place for trapdoors it sure is going to be upstairs, huh. ]
