WEEK FIVE: MINGLE

WEEK FIVE

OCCUPANCY: 23

Rise and shine, little monsters. A new week is waiting just for you. The events of yesterday may have been hard to stomach, but time heals all wounds, after all. The damages the house has incurred over the last week have been reverted and the staff is hard at work fulfilling their roles in this mansion. A piping hot breakfast is served in the dining room promptly at 7am, every square inch of floor and furniture has been cleaned spotless, and Pumpkin is...probably around tending to the animals outside. As you exit your rooms on this lovely morning, guests will find that the barrier leading upstairs has diminished, and a new floor has been opened to explore.

For anyone who ventures into the ballroom, a new change may become apparent. Should you choose to look at the plaques long enough, two images will flicker and change sporadically. While Phoenix's portrait remains the same, on occasion it will change to an unrecognizable figure, flames surrounding the charred flesh. Likewise, Four's portrait looks just like herself, though if you blink you may miss the sharp knives protruding through her chest, rivers of blood dripping down her front. There is no rhyme and reason for the change...though perhaps it serves as a reminder to those who remain.

Additionally, the house rules have been moved from the ballroom and back into the hallway, mounted in the entryway as they were.

You know what to expect by now. Once a week, one of your own transforms into someone unrecognizable. But it's hard to empathize with someone without experiencing the hardship for yourself, isn't it? Worry not. Starting today, from the moment you wake, you will find that you yourself have changed into something unrecognizable. Claws, fangs, fur, scales, extra limbs, extra mouths...the changes are numerous as your monster form takes a hold of you. Oh but it's alright! It's just the physical appearance, after all. You're still yourself inside...but it may be hard to believe that as the week goes on.

Some of you may be able to brush these strange changes aside. Others of you may find yourself struggling to understand who you really are. And others of you will find even more problems on hand. Is it your imagination, or did the mansion grow several degrees colder? You just can't quite to seem to warm up. While you may normally be comfortable sharing blankets with your fellow guests, you now find yourself feeling a bit greedy and unwilling to share...well, anything, really. The insatiable greed requires you to take and take and take, no matter if you require the necessities you're taking. And yet even as you take, and especially as you consume, you find that you're never quite satisfied, belly never quite full regardless of how much you eat. That's troubling, isn't it?

You may experience only some of these events. Then again, maybe you're unlucky and you're experiencing all of these events at different points in time. Time is of the essence, however, and come Monday at noon a rustling crackle of static can be heard from overhead. Try as you might, you won't be able to find the speakers but a message will play loud and clear for all.

No, not that part. That's you guys earnestly trying.

But when people are saying "That's horrible, I can't believe someone would do that" like I'm some monster, the 'I would never stoop that low' isn't said but it's implied.

[He's still listening, but that doesn't mean he's going to agree to whatever Chuuya says. He doesn't look like he agrees with this.]

So you think most of us would've done what you did?
shortforever: (14)

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-24 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe not for that particular motive, no. But everyone's got something they'd kill for.

[personal profile] burningrescue 2020-03-24 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
The way I see it, they've been giving us motives every week. But only three people have tried to kill somebody when they weren't being forced to by the house. Nobody else has.

So that view of yours - I just don't see how you can back that up!

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-24 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
If we were out of here and done with it, you'd be right, sure. But we're not done yet, and things can still get worse.

Do you really think people won't be tempted this week? Even if we can keep everyone from killing, the temptation is still there. And who knows what we'll get next week.
burningrescue: (111)

[personal profile] burningrescue 2020-03-24 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
You must be worried, then. If you think any of us might decide to kill next - then you'd have to think you might be a target, right?
shortforever: (17)

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-24 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone can try but they're gonna be in for a world of hurt. I'll go on trial for murder a second time before I'll let someone kill me.
burningrescue: (111)

[personal profile] burningrescue 2020-03-24 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
What about that? Are you tempted to go for it this week?
shortforever: (57)

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-24 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I could lie and say 'no', but I'm supposed to be honest now, aren't I?

Yeah, it's tempting. I'd like to see Dazai again, and even if the motive is a lie the chance is still eating at me. But I've got a stronger incentive to not murder at this point, so it's fine.
burningrescue: (131)

[personal profile] burningrescue 2020-03-24 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
You don't have to lie. If I were you, I'd want that, too.

[And he might resent the people who did get saved - Hunter, or Lio . . . ]

What's the incentive, then?
shortforever: (62)

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-24 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
[He absolutely does resent Hunter and Lio, but that's an entirely different can of worms.]

You mean the thing that's keeping me from murdering?
burningrescue: (132)

[personal profile] burningrescue 2020-03-24 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the thing that's keeping you from murdering.
shortforever: (30)

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-24 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Okay now that this dumbassery is done and he can actually answer the question-]

If I don't at least try to behave, it'll make Reito upset.

[How will he get his scandalous hand-holding and smooches then?]
burningrescue: (118)

[personal profile] burningrescue 2020-03-25 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Heh. He smiles, just a little.]

So all that stuff about murders and all that - but in the end, it kinda seems like you wanted to protect him, huh?
shortforever: (97)

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-25 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Of course I did! But I couldn't just tell him that, he'd take it all personally! I swear, he only hears what he wants to hear. It's annoying.
burningrescue: (they would carry me home)

[personal profile] burningrescue 2020-03-25 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I still don't think you were right to do it. But - if your intention was to save somebody you care about, I can at least understand it.
shortforever: (97)

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-25 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Part of him still wants to argue an argument that basically boils down to 'fuck you I do what I want', but the second half of that makes him reconsider for a moment. Did Galo really understand it now? After just talking it through like that? He wasn't going to be some pigheaded hero who lectured him on right and wrong regardless of his motivations?]

Well...good. And see? You can understand without fighting, you're smarter than you give yourself credit for.
burningrescue: (111)

[personal profile] burningrescue 2020-03-25 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. But I think you had the wrong idea. It seems like you talked Ayabe out of doing something reckless! If you’d trusted him to follow your promise, you wouldn’t have had to do what you did!

[He is trying hard, but that doesn’t mean he’ll stop just saying whatever’s on his mind.]
shortforever: (30)

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-25 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Honestly, that's what it boils down to. Chuuya doesn't trust people easily, and frequently ends up in situations where he cares about someone but doesn't trust them. It sucks, yo.]

I guess? But it's a little late to be saying that now.
burningrescue: (142)

[personal profile] burningrescue 2020-03-25 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not. You can't undo what you did, but you have to do better from now on.

[They're supposed to work together and trust each other. And that means everyone. So he feels like he has to try, even if he's running the risk of pissing Chuuya off.]

And I have to do better, too. I want to say you're wrong, that when it comes down to it we wouldn't all just protect the people who mean most to us. . . But I can't pretend that I didn't fight harder for Lio than I fought for Dazai! And that wasn't right of me, either!
shortforever: (88)

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-25 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh.

That's actually kind of moving, because it's what Chuuya has been silently judging people for and Galo's the first to admit to it.
]

That- I don't blame you for that, you know. You're closer to Lio than you were to Dazai, so it makes sense that you would fight harder for him.
burningrescue: (132)

[personal profile] burningrescue 2020-03-25 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes sense, but it's not right. We should all give it our all every week. From now on, that's what I'm going to do.

[He's assumed Chuuya would feel that way - losing someone as a monster between two people who were saved? So he wants to clear the air on that.]
shortforever: (64)

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-26 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
[It's good, because it's what Chuuya needs to hear. And after a long consideration, he finally sighs in defeat.]

You hero-types don't know when to quit, huh?

Fine, you win. I'll give the 'try your best without killing anyone' thing a shot.

[Despite the way he worded that, there's a sense that he's actually okay with that outcome.]
burningrescue: (118)

[personal profile] burningrescue 2020-03-26 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a deal.

[Putting out his hand for a handshake.]
shortforever: (09)

[personal profile] shortforever 2020-03-27 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Ok. Handshake is a go.]
