WEEK THREE: TRIAL
WEEK THREE: TRIAL
OCCUPANCY: 26
Wakey wakey, eggs and bakey.
Despite the events of the day before, when you wake up on Saturday it almost feels as though nothing is out of place. Breakfast is still served at 7am on the spot, the house is still peaceful, and yet the distinct feeling that something isn't quite right continues to follow you wherever you go.
It soon becomes obvious that today is a different kind of day. One by one, all of you will begin to feel the urge to return to the ballroom where this event began. Try as you might, you'll find that these feelings can't be easily ignored despite your best efforts. Should you find yourself still resisting by 11:55am, a strong unseen force will guide you straight into the ballroom.
When all have gathered in the room, the doors will lock behind you at 12pm sharp. The feast table has been set to provide guests with hors d'oeuvres and beverages, but that's not all. In the center of this table rests a large wooden box and two baskets of crayons and notecards.
And of course, seated in front of the wall of profile plaques are your three lovely hosts. Peach, Plum and Pumpkin wait patiently for all to gather before drawing attention.
"Someone here is a murderer," they say, pointing up at the plaque of the house rules.
Hello, everyone, and welcome to the fourth trial!
We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.
While there was a mini-investigation on Friday, today is the day participants can really dive in to investigate areas in the game setting, check over the body and review evidence that they find! Please see the toplevels in this post for more information. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. One of your hosts will also be accompanying you on these visits.
Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously. Please also be sure to read the voting page carefully, as we're trying a fun new bonus mechanic this game!

summary for our souls
Good afternoon, everyone. There is much to discuss, so I will cut to the chase. Subete Kenzaki has been killed. We do not know the means by which his murder was carried out, but I trust that we will be informed of the findings once the body has been thoroughly examined. For now, this is all the information I was able to collect by speaking to several of you.
Seven of us, myself included, fell asleep in the infirmary last night. From what I can tell, all of us awoke to a dull, stabbing pain in our backs. There was nothing noticeably off in the infirmary itself, but it's worth asking the sisters if it's a location we should investigate today. Brilith-san and Hunter slept in the museum. Both reported waking up with the same song stuck in their head. Additionally, they apparently experienced disorientation as well — like they had momentarily forgotten where they fell asleep. Babo Kim, who slept in the astronomy tower, reported a similar sensation. Dizziness, like his head was spinning. Finally, I received word through Nicolas-san that those who slept in the library woke up to sudden knowledge of various mythologies. That reestablishes the pattern we have observed in the past weeks, making last week the exception and not a shift in the rules.
If anyone woke up to an effect that was not mentioned, please come forward and let us know. This will allow us to build a more comprehensive list of locations we may need to investigate.
[For reference, he is being a good boy and making a list of all the locations he has mentioned so far.]
Moving on, Hunter, Nie Huaisang and I noticed something strange in the museum. Everything looked the same, but the planchette was hovering a few inches above the ouija board. We tried to lower it, of course... However, there was some invisible force keeping it in place. Meanwhile, Kuji-kun and Dazai-kun noticed another oddity in the movie theater. Once again, everything seemed to be in order — but there was a distinct smell of burnt popcorn, and a sign stating that the popcorn machine was out of order. Those who headed for the astronomy tower noticed drips and smudges of blood on the stairs, and found themselves unable to enter the star tower. Missile-kun reported that it felt as if there was an invisible barrier.
[Did he, though? Or did Akechi say a thing and Missile just agreed? A mystery.]
... Finally, the main hall was apparently a mess. Per the description I received— [He waves the notebook a little.] There was blood everywhere. In front of all the entryways, on top of the basement stairs, the bottom of the stairs heading to the second floor, and the front door. There was dirt coming out of the ballroom as well. This trail led all the way to the basement stairs. [Oof.] Unfortunately, I was unable to verify it for myself. But this is all the information I was able to ascertain yesterday. If you made any additional discoveries, the floor is yours.

WEIRD NOTE
[Galo is just shouting generally, waving something in the air. Also, he's wearing his firefighter uniform pants this week! And a t-shirt, for some reason.
Anyway, he's holding up a note that has an extremely unsettling drawing on it. If you want to inspect closer, on the outside it has some text and on the inside, there's an additional note along with the drawing.]
I found this weird, creepy note this week. It showed up in my pocket outta nowhere. Pumpkin said it's legit, though. We think it means Luna isn't a monster, and Hunter isn't either. But Pumpkin said the person who sent this made a mistake last week, when their note said Melt wasn't a fish monster.

I believe it says that Hunter can no longer become a monster. He is immune to the disease, because he has already had it and received the antidote.

STATE OF THE BODY
We're looking for all four limbs this time around. Subete's body was cut into pieces at the joints, and his head was severed as well. The cuts look neat, cut through with a blade rather than torn or bitten, though Nic can take another look to verify. It looks like the murderer had more trouble with the arms than the legs and neck.
He has a stab wound in his chest, thin and only a few inches deep into the heart, possibly due to a knife.
His head is... cold. Like... [ LIKE A DEFROSTED CHICKEN ] Like it was separated and left in a freezer for some time before being taken back out. There's a stab wound to his left eye, blunt and messy, but no bruising around the eye or face. Blood covering his face suggests he was still alive when this happened, like he was moving, instead of being stabbed in the eye after he died.
[ There is no mention about the clothes. Nobody has to know about that. ]

For what purpose would they possibly have wanted to . . . freeze the head?

MUSEUM FINDINGS
Hey, we're back.
Okay, so - we found a severed arm on the board in the museum. It was holding onto the planchette, and the planchette had like. Eye gore on it. Don't ask me why I know what eye gore looks like because the answer is gross.
[ she's kind of brandishing this arm as she talks, beau wtf. ]
There was blood all over the board, I couldn't tell if anybody was trying to contact anything. I tried calling a ghost and got a screechy sound in response, so that's a no-go on asking ghosts for help. Also, there was a bullet hole in one of the cases. We couldn't grab the bullet because it was in the case, but. Around the bullet hole were black hairs that kind of look like animal fur, maybe? They're all singed.
So like - my first impression was he was trying to summon a ghost, maybe? Maybe he got possessed and stabbed himself in the eye, or something forced his face into the planchette when the monster grabbed him and ripped his arm off. Might wanna try to match the eyeball to the planchette. Also looks like maybe he shot at the monster, so we wanna look for bullet grazes.
[ to nie huaisang: ] Did I miss anything?

Well, that explains what stabbed his eye, I guess.

TOWER FINDINGS
Firstly, we found this broken metal at the bottom of the stairs. It looks like some sort of armor - Missile said he, Subete, and Dazai all got something like it a few weeks ago, so chances are, it was from Subete.
There was a trail of blood drops on the stairs, but the pattern changed at the top. This hair was there. [ she points to a handful of small, black hairs ] Missile said it's smelly, so it's probably from our monster. Whoever it was, it looked like they fell before getting up to run down the stairs.
The top of the tower was a disaster. Things were strewn everywhere, and there was a streak of blood on the floor. I found this, [ a cell phone! ] underneath a globe. There's a video on it, of Subete saying "Maia," and I assume that's when the fight started. There was a struggle, the sound of things falling, and two gunshots right before it ended. I assume that after the recording is when one of them fell on the stairs and ran for it.

INFIRMARY
Inside was a mess - I believe from those that chose to spend the night there, but the murderer took advantage of that chaos to hide a weapon. [Indicating Phoenix and the extremely bloody garden shears . . . !] My guess is these were used to remove the arms, but it would be a good idea to check.
Supplies were missing from the cabinets. It is difficult to determine if these relate to the murder or not, so if anyone has knowledge of what was previously missing or used before Thursday night.

HALL/KITCHEN/BASEMENT + CHALKBOARD CATHERD
Nic immediately goes to the chalkboard, flipping it over, as Akechi's summary and Nic's body notes take up one side. And Nic starts writing;]
MUSEUM; Started here. Eye injured by that ghost summoning board thing, was found gripped in one of Subete's arms. Bullet found with fur on it.
TOWER; more blood, some sort of broken armor, more monster hairs. two more bullets at top of tower and more blood, blood on one bullet, signs of someone having fallen. video recording of Subete saying "Maia" and two gunshots
INFIRMARY; leg found, along with bloody gardening shears that may have been used to cut off the arms. More blood. missing bandages unaccounted for.
MAIN HALL; lots of blood streaked around, however it all seems weirdly uniform like it was done on purpose. Bare partial footprint in the blood by the basement stairs, along with some dirt.
KITCHEN: Galo confirmed the head had been in the freezer, and found two knives with blood on them
BASEMENT: the dirt trail led to the laundry room where we found an overflowing washing machine with Jin Ling's clothes in them, according to Babo Kim.
[As usual, add anything Nic's missed!]

Sniff Check
[ Much like previous weeks, he will use the doggo like a metal detector wand. Starting from their shoes or feet, going up their left side and then their left arm. then passing him across the chest to the right arm. Then back down the right side.
What do you all smell like? ]

ESCAPE FROM THE MOVIES
45-san, Dazai-kun and I found, ah... Kenzaki-san's arm and a number of other items in the movie theater. His arm had been deposited in the popcorn machine. The popcorn inside was heavily burnt but, as we can see, the arm is not. This leads me to believe it was placed there well after the machine was tampered with. Additionally, we noticed the remains of a film reel in the popcorn machine's door, as well as charred streaks around the machine itself. The streaks had an iron-like scent to them.
[So, uh. That was probably blood. Fun!]
We found an empty film case further inside the theater. [Holding it up! It's for Fr*day the 13th.] I assume it originally housed the burnt reel we found, but there's not nearly enough of it left to fill the entire case. 45-san found a bloody bullet and a key, though we couldn't salvage the book that laid on top of them.
[Is it a room key? We just don't know. Might want to check that out, though.]

POND STUFF
Along with the leg, there was a gun in the pond, which looks like the one Subete showed off during trial. A duck shot Zenitsu— DO NOT ASK.
[ He's tired! Leave him alone! Ask Zenitsu instead. ]
A set of footprints were found leading from the pond to the shed.
[ He holds up his hand and points to a spot on his wrist, indicating the length from there to the tips of his fingers to compare to people's feet. The length matches: Jin Ling, Nie Huaisang, and Luna ]
And this was in the shed.
[ Holds out a bloody chainsaw, have fun with this one, guys. ]

THE VOTES ARE IN...
[At 9pm on the dot, nine chimes ring from the main hall. The three girls rise to their feet and pick up the box from the table as they begin to count the notecards inside. Once all of the votes are accounted for, they'll look up to address the group at large.]
Your votes have been counted, and you have selected a guilty culprit.
[Behind them, miniature spotlights highlight a profile.]
It was Osamu Dazai.
[Without warning, Dazai will find himself bound by invisible chains and pulled out of his seat. As he's dragged to the middle of the ballroom, an ornate bird cage falls from the ceiling to trap him inside. No matter how hard he struggles, this cage cannot be opened.]
Preparations for rule seven begin now, and tomorrow his spirit shall be delivered. We thank you for your participation.
[And with that, the ballroom doors unlock. Anyone who would like to speak with Dazai is free to do so, but they, too, will be unable to free the jailbird from his cage.]

No! I don't want to!
[ No matter how hard he tries to fight though, he's forced to the middle of the ballroom and the cage descends. He's growling and still struggling desperately. ]
I don't want to die...
